Despite having recorded seven previous albums, produced fifty-five additional recording projects, and written hundreds of songs covered by some of the great names in popular music, Don Nix is best known for the hits he created for others. They include “Same Old Blues” and “Palace Of The King” for Freddie King, “Going Back To Iuka” and “Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven” for Albert King, “Like A Road Leading Home” made popular by Jerry Garcia, and the classic “Going Down,” recorded by hundreds of rock & roll and blues bands throughout the ’70s and ’80s, including Jeff Beck, John Lee Hooker, J.J. Cale, and many others. Eight years after the release of his last album, Don Nix came out of musical retirement to record his favorites among his own compositions (including those listed above). He called on many of the friends he made throughout his long career to help, including guitarists Steve Cropper of Booker T & the MGs, Audley Freed of the Black Crowes, Brian May of Queen, Stax session guitarist Bobby Manuel, and Leslie West of Mountain. He also invited sultry singer Bonnie Bramlett, blues giant John Mayall, pianist Max Middleton, Nashville singer/songwriter Dan Penn, rockabilly legend Billy Lee Riley, Louisiana singer/songwriter Tony Joe White (Polk Salad Annie and Rainy Night In Georgia) and organist and ex-Domino Bobby Whitlock.
