British Film Composers In Concert

Home > Music > White Line

The latest White Line release showcases the concert works of some of our most interesting cinema composers on a disc of world-premiere recordings, featuring the likes of Carry On film composers Eric Rogers and Bruce Montgomery. The Palladium Symphony is Rogers's contribution to this delightful selection of works, and is inspired by his time conducting and composing for Sunday Night at the London Palladium. Montgomery's Scottish Aubade and Lullaby were written for two film projects, set in the Highlands and Nova Scotia.Leighton Lucas went from dancing with Diaghilev's Ballets Russes to working with Ivor Novello, later writing music for Alfred Hitchcock's Stage Fright and war epics such as The Dam Busters. His Ballet de la Reine draws on these eclectic influences as well as on styles as diverse as Dowland and Ravel.Clifton Parker wrote prolifically for films, including Treasure Island and Sink the Bismark, and this experience shows in his atmospheric Thieves' Carnival. The resultant disc is a fascinating display of music by film composers showing their ability to segue effortlessly into the realm of the concert hall.Parker, Clifton : Thieves' Carnival OvertureLucas, Leighton : Ballet de la reineCollins, Anthony : Eire SuiteMontgomery, Bruce : Scottish AubadeMontgomery, Bruce : Scottish LullabyRogers, Eric : Palladium SymphonyParker, Clifton : Choreographic Studies (2)
